I have a wardrobe stocked with basics, neutrals and classics. Want to know why? I take those simple styles that are otherwise… well… simple… and elevate them with fun and thoughtful accessories.
Fall is the perfect time for layering and that goes beyond jackets, coats and cardigans. It means layering scarves, jewelry and patterns in your accessories. I’m sharing some of the pieces I’ve purchased recently that I’m using to take my classic fall pieces to the next level.
By playing with the basic pieces that you’ll return to over and over again, you can implement trends in a subtle, and often more affordable, way. I like to try an animal print in my shoes regardless of season for just a pop of sass. These snakeskin booties have gotten more compliments in the last month than probably any other shoe I own. They’re truly show-stoppers. I love pairing booties like these with flare denim to elongate my legs. Anything to make you look taller: do it. 😉
Square scarves are the best style right now followed by the bandana scarf. This one is still available and is the only scarf I’ve been wearing so far this season because I’ve loved it too much to swap out for an alternative. The colors are gorgeous and it’s not too big so it’s easy to manage.
If you haven’t jumped on the hat bandwagon yet, fall is definitely the time to do it. I found this one at RUST & Co. in Sioux Falls but I’ve linked a number of similar options for you below.
Do you have a favorite accessory that you gravitate toward as the temperatures dip? We’re really seeing a cool down again this week so I’ll be playing in my closet to layer up.
