Falling with Posh | Part I

Hands down my favorite part of cool weather wear: Layering. There’s nothing better. Creating a perfect layered combination is the best way to look put together and cozy during those chilly fall days.

Here are the key things I keep in mind when layering:

1.) Three is a magic number: Layering works best in sets of three. Find a good base, like a t-shirt or light-weight sweater, that compliments the second layer, like this flannel, and then top it off with a jacket. Another one of my go-to combos: a button up under a v-neck sweater topped off with a vest.

2.) Complimenting color combos: This particular look works great as an example because the navy shirt picks up the navy stripe in the flannel. The white flannel is also complimented by my light-colored boots. The pop of color comes in with the jacket.

3.) Texture: Using a couple of different fabrics together is a great way to add dimension to a layered outfit. Flannel, cotton, wool, cashmere… they’re meant to be friends in the fall. Play with how you can put them together in one outfit. It’s another way to use the rule of threes. This particular outfit uses the cotton in the navy shirt and jacket, flannel in the button up, and wool in my favorite socks.

4.) Don’t forget your feet!: Layering is always better with socks. Whether you’re wearing practical boots like these Sperrys, or dressing it up with a riding boot, warm/textured socks always complete a layered look.
