Five Winter Closet Staples

As much as I like to complain about the cold temps we experience here in the Midwest, I secretly love that it allows me to turn over my closet with each season. It keeps things interesting! I can pack things away and rediscover them months later.

I find that I have closet staples with each season; those things that I can’t live without, and revisit over and over again as I style different looks.

This week I’m sharing my top five winter closet staples knowing you’ll get just as much use out of them as I do!

| TURTLENECK SWEATER |

A turtleneck sweater should be a no-brainer for anyone but just in case it isn’t: it’s number one on my list and it should be on yours too.

This basic is perfect for layering with just about anything. You may think you can only layer this under things but really you can layer it over things as well. Put a turtleneck under this and let it peak out at the hem and at the bottom of your sleeves.

I gravitate toward a tunic length for so many reasons but with that added length this turtleneck sweater is ideal to pair with leggings.

This suede moto jacket seriously gives me life. I’m so in love with it. It seems to go with absolutely everything.

Pair this suede beauty with any sweater in your closet and you’ll be shocked at how warm you are! You know those events you don’t want to wear a giant coat to but also don’t want to freeze to death in between the car and your destination? Here’s your answer.

| SPANX FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS |

I put off buying these for WAY too long. I had heard about how amazing these leggings are but I kept telling myself, can they really be that good? Well I’m here to tell you: they’re really that good… and better.

The Spanx approach sucks you in where you need it (praise be!) and the faux leather is so slimming! These babies have just enough shimmer to be more than just your average legging.

These leggings are worth every single penny. I need them in every color.

{For reference I’m in an XS but if/when I order my next pair I will likely order a Small}

| LEATHER BAG |

You could argue this is a closet staple for any time of year. But the reason it’s a true ‘must’ for me during the winter months is because of what feels like a constant mess. Between the slush, dirty car etc. etc. etc… you’re bound to run into some of that mess with whatever is at your side.

With a great leather bag, that dirt wipes right off. I chose this one earlier this season because of the classic style and size. It’s just big enough for my necessities but I’m not weighed down by it. The last thing you need while trudging through snow with children is to have additional weight.

| OVER THE KNEE BOOTS |

These over the knee boots dress up any look and they’re also incredibly functional! {Not to mention: they make your legs look a mile long.}

I love wearing these with my Spanx faux leather leggings as I’ve done here but they’re just as adorable with a skinny jean or your favorite pair of black denim.

You can let them be the star of the show when it comes to pulling together an outfit. Have a simple sweater you like to wear on repeat? Throw on some comfortable jeans and these boots to look like you’ve really got it together. 😉
