Yet another room in our house that was in need of some TLC (strictly from a design perspective) was our living room. Fortunately, the family before us had replaced all of the windows. And there are a lot of them; which is fantastic because the natural light makes me so happy.
But even despite the flood of light coming in, it was still so dark just because of the paint color and heavy/over-sized furniture.
Obviously we brought our own furniture with us but before we moved anything into this room we got to painting! It changed everything.
It’s taken a lot of time for the decor in this space to come together. We had the two couches from our previous home but that was basically it! In retrospect this was great because we were able to start from scratch and tailor it work for this room.
One area I would still like to address is the artwork above the couch. While I like what we have, I am still looking for a great statement piece that makes you stop and stare.
At the same time, I want to make sure nothing makes you stop and stare more than the character – that should never be upstaged. The hardwoods (which are on our list to refinish because of some wear), the cove ceiling, the arched doorways and the fireplace are all original to the home. These are the things that made us fall in love with this home.
Overall, we are so close to completely checking this room off of our list of to-do’s and we’re so pleased with this great family space. We naturally gather here on a nightly basis as well as when we host family get-togethers. It’s truly the heart of our home.
