I swore that I had already put this blog post together at some point in this blogging journey of mine but alas, I was wrong. So here we are: almost six years later {wild} and I’m finally sharing my top tips for choosing the perfect winter coat for weathering the Midwest.
Even if you don’t live in the Midwest, there is still a good chance that you’ll be faced with cold temperatures in your neck of the woods or travel somewhere where you will need a thoughtful coat.
I am addicted to coats. Every single year I say that I won’t buy a new coat {because truly… I don’t need any more} and somehow I end up with yet another by the end of the season.
But if there’s one practical purchase for your winter wardrobe… it’s a good coat.
Things that make a good coat in my book? Length for starters. Cover your booty, girlfriend. You’ll be so much warmer because of it. I’m not saying below the knee length but for sure covering your butt. Although I know a number of friends who own and love an extra long coat so maybe that’s my next coat purchase. 😉
Fabric also matters. I love wool for a more dressy option but for everyday I prefer one that is wipe-able fabric. You’re bound to get it dirty and if you can easily wipe your sleeve with a wet cloth without having to wash the entire coat.
The one you see me styling in this post is more of a cotton fabric and it’s been one of my favorite purchases from earlier this fall. I took a risk in choosing the light color but it’s been so easy to wash that it has been completely fine. The fur is removable so it won’t get matted as you wash it and I’ve definitely gotten it dirty but had no issues getting things out of the fabric.
I rounded up my favorite coats {many are on sale now!} as well as the outfit you see here. This exact sweater is no longer available but I found similar options when the exact match was out of stock.
Cheers to the first blog post of 2021!
