The first of a few basement reveal posts is here! We’re starting with Carsten’s bathroom and although it’s fairly small, the details make it one of my favorite spots I’ve designed in this home.
I knew I wanted this entire basement to have a masculine feel while still blending the modern farmhouse vibe we established upstairs. Since Carsten moved down here and this entire space will be used as an inviting family space/man cave, I wanted to bring in some colors and textures that felt stylish and a little swanky.
Initially I considered doing a white vanity but in an effort to make this bathroom unique from the main bathroom upstairs, I convinced myself to go with a pop of color. We chose Coastal Plain by Sherwin Williams to compliment the green accent wall we put in Carsten’s bedroom. I’m so glad we did. Cabinets throughout the basement were done by Wiltch Construction who we’ve loved working with on this house as well as our last.

The larger tile in here is perfect for cleaning and making the space feel bigger. We went with a matte black and light grey grout (Silverado by TEC). We carried the same tile style into the shower but in a white marble pattern to lighten it up.
We already had this mirror from our last home but we added some gold accents in the light fixture from Menards as well as in the towel and shower curtain hooks.
The toilet, sink, bathtub and faucets are all Kohler to match the upstairs bathroom. The vanity countertop is also quartz to match the rest of our home but the basement has slightly different veining that brings in more cream colors versus the more grey tones that are upstairs.
The entire basement carries the paint color from upstairs. We’ve absolutely loved how City Loft by Sherwin Williams contrasts just enough with our white trim but keeps things light and airy.
We’ll have more basement details to share soon! We can’t wait to share the finished product with you all.
