We’ve officially been in our home for three years! This seems absolutely crazy to me but there’s no doubt we’ve loved this house. Do I think this is the “forever home?” My gut says it’s not but it’s perfect for this season of our life.
The biggest project since we moved in back in November of 2019 has definitely been the completion of the basement followed by the patio space in our backyard (which I haven’t had a chance to share here on the blog yet but promise to do so once spring comes around).
This house was not a custom build but we got it under contract so early on the building process that we were able to choose all of the finishes that continue to make it feel really personal to us. There were so many design touches that were not a part of the original plan that we chose to add during construction.
One of those details is the shiplap we added on the wall behind the mirrors in the primary bathroom. It wasn’t a large expense and it added some texture to the space so we went for it. It was initially painted white but as time went on, we felt the need to add a little warmth to this room. The white shiplap with the white quartz countertops and white tile started to feel pretty stark even with the contrast of the stained cabinets.
It took a lot of trial and error to find the right green paint color for the shiplap but we landed on Mountain Road by Sherwin Williams and it’s absolutely perfect in my opinion. This project just goes to show you that it doesn’t take a complete overhaul of a room to make a huge impact. It’s also a good example of how you can add design elements well after you’ve moved into your home even if it’s a new build.
