The Only Black Dress Pants You’ll Ever Need

I remember how excited I was to start my first job out of college. I had been hired as a full-time multi-media journalist at a TV station in Sioux Falls and was so excited to put my journalism degree to work. I felt a little ill prepared given my focus had been in print journalism and not broadcasting but I was more than willing to learn and dive right in. The only thing less prepared for this first “big girl job” was my wardrobe.

Thankfully, with the help of my sweet mama, I was able to shift my closet from ‘college student’ to ‘on-air talent’ over time. Now, ten years post-college graduation, my wardrobe leans very heavily toward classic business casual and professional. I can also confidently tell you that I’ve found the holy grail of black dress pants. And they’re from a brand we know and love but not one that immediately comes to mind when you’re thinking of where to shop for work wear.

I’m talking about Spanx.

I first tried Spanx pants with their faux leather leggings; a pair that I still love dearly and style often. Once I fell in love with those, I knew I wanted to look at their selection further. After trying their Perfect Pant collection I can’t brag about them enough.

I went for the high-wasted flare version first. I will say I do wish I had opted for the long version instead of the regular but they work great with a smaller heel. I’m 5’7″ for reference.

I can promise you that I will be purchasing another style soon. They’re truly the only dress pants you’ll ever wear again thanks to their shaping abilities {they suck you in in all the right places} and comfortability.
