I enjoy a good floral print year round but there’s no better time than spring. The challenge with floral print: finding a good one is not always easy. There are TONS of options out there but I’ve found that that there are just as many poor executions as there are good executions.
So I’m hoping I can help narrow your search to only highlight the good ones and keep you from purchasing, or even considering, ones that are anything less than perfect.
My thoughts: you can definitely find large floral prints that are flattering. You can also find small floral prints that are flattering. But there are so many factors to consider along the way. Color combinations, how frequent the pattern is repeated, over-pattern mixing, floral placement… I could go on.
I often get asked, “Can you just tell me what not to wear?” I get a little nervous about blatantly coming out and saying, “Don’t wear this,” because, inevitably someone has that exact thing in their closet and they love it. Know that my intention is to never hurt feelings or discourage your personal style. We all have our own style preferences and they’re not exactly like mine which is completely okay!
That said: if you’re reading this blog you’re clearly open to style advice, guidance or inspiration. So I feel a little obligated to share why certain pieces should exit your closet. This particular top (which seems to come in a million different but similar executions) needs to make a quiet departure. It’s not flattering and it takes pattern mixing a bit too far. We’re going to find you a much better floral print alternative, girl.
This post is designed to help you find a floral top that will fill a void in your closet; to insert a beautiful, flattering and versatile piece that you can dress up or down. My particular floral top I’m wearing here is from a local boutique {the Holland House in Orange City, IA} but I’ve linked a similar one below as well.
In other non-style related news: we’re getting everything ready for the final phase of the main level renovation… floors! There will be so much more to come on that but pray that we can survive the craziness that inevitably comes with this part of the process. If you have any sanity tips for those of you who have gone through the floor refinishing experience please share them in the comment section below!
