I tried Botox and loved it. I spilled all of the details in this blog post so you could decide for yourself if you would love it too. The ladies at Vivaz Medical Spa where I go for all of my treatments gave me some great advice when I was in for my last round of Botox when I complained about how dead and tired my under-eyes looked.
They recommended trying a filler to adjust the deep tear troughs I was seeing under my eye. I had a visible loss of volume under my eyes which resulted in bags and a shadow that made me look eternally exhausted no matter how much sleep I got.
This is an incredibly common challenge for people as they age and when I talked about my filler appointment on my Instagram Stories, I got so many questions that I thought it would be most beneficial to put it all here as a resource to come back to over and over again. If you missed the video I did over on Instagram, it’s saved under the “Vivaz” highlight in my bio.
So here are the frequently asked questions about the filler treatment I received (and loved!) just a few weeks ago! All questions are answered by the expert medical team at Vivaz Medical Spa. If you find there’s a question you still have that you would like addressed, leave it in the comment section below so we can add it here to this post!
| FILLER FAQ |
- Cost? Cost can vary from person to person depending on the amount of volume loss and product used. Some individuals may also require filler in the cheek in addition to the tear trough. On average 1 to 3 ml (or syringes) are used which could cost $550-$1700.
- Recommendations for Twin Cities for this treatment? Connie Brennan, RN is located in Edina. I would make sure that you are always receiving these injections at a MEDICAL facility and by an experienced injector.
- Name of the filler we used and how long does it last? We used Restylane 1 ml (or 1 syringe). This filler lasts up to 1 year.
- What was the treatment called? Dermal filler was used to replace lost volume in the tear trough. Dermal fillers (a majority of dermal fillers) are made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that you make naturally in your body- it helps to plump your skin. This ‘clear jelly-like substance’ is injected into the area of volume loss providing instant results. Fillers can last 1-2 years depending on the type of product and where it is placed.
- Does it help with dark circles? If the dark circles are caused by volume loss it will help with pigment by restoring volume. In addition, if dark circles are caused by fine vessels it may also help to lighten area by pulling skin away from these darker vessels.
- Bruising? Bruising is always a possibility when injections are completed. The under eye skin is very thin and vascular so this is a high risk area for bruising. Bruising is typically minimal/small. Always allow 2 weeks for a bruise to heal.
- Does it help with under eye wrinkles? If the wrinkles are associated with volume loss it can benefit; however, if the primary issue is laxity of the skin (which is very common) this requires laser treatments or even surgery to help tighten or remove the skin. Wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet) can be treated with a neuromodulator or botox which stops muscle movement.
- Reasons why you would get this treatment? To restore lost volume under the eye to give a more rested appearance.
- Was a cannula used for tear troughs? A cannula was used during this treatment. This is a blunt tip needle that minimizes risk of bruising. The technique used is determined on an individual basis.
