I’m heading back to work tomorrow after what has been an absolutely blissful maternity leave with our baby girl. I’ve been trying to prepare emotionally {as if you can} and also preparing my closet because I’m about to get real familiar with my work wear again.
My casual looks won’t be abandoned completely. In fact, I look forward to joining some of my gal pals after a full work day for a little happy hour action. This mama needs it!
But who wants to go out for a few drinks in their office outfit? Not this girl! At the same time, I don’t want to worry about putting together another full outfit. So I try to wear something that I can easily take from office friendly to laid back. Read on for the two pieces I grab as I head out the door to transform my look from desk to patio chic.

Blazer {linen version here} // Top {mine sold out but similar here, here and here} // Pencil skirt // Destroyed shorts {similar here and here} // Heels {similar here} // D’Orsay flats {mine sold out but similar here} // Bag // Watch // Sunglasses // Planner // Lipstick {shade is Give In}
This is by far my favorite way to achieve the work to happy hour look with the least amount of prep possible. This top is perfect for the office and is easily finished with this white blazer {a must have for your summer closet}. This pencil skirt is another closet staple that goes with just about anything and paired with the heels is simple yet sleek & professional for work.
But the BEST part is that I can grab these destroyed shorts, my favorite d’Orsay flats and I’m ready for an evening of fun!
Ok so now that you’re prepared for your desk to drinks look… I can’t wait to tell you about my favorite sale that starts tomorrow!
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is coming and it’s going to be amazing. Not familiar with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale? It’s the sale to get us all ready for the upcoming season. It’s seriously the perfect time to shop for fall/winter because it’s ALL new product but we get to shop it at sale price BEFORE it goes to full price. We all know that things typically things go on sale after the season is over but with the #NSale it’s the opposite. {Which is basically the best things ever.} And we also know that things like boots, sweaters, coats and other cold weather must-haves are more expensive than sandals, shorts and tanks. So… yeah… awesome.
It pays to be a Nordstrom Card Holder because you’re able to shop early. If you have a Nordstrom Credit Card or Debit Card, you get early access to the sale starting tomorrow, July 14th. The sale then opens up to everyone on June 22nd and runs through August 7th. The hottest items go quickly so make sure to shop as early as you can! {Another important thing to note is that Nordstrom offers free shipping AND free returns!}
These are some of the amazing brands that will be on sale:
Stay tuned to Midwest In Style as I will be shopping this sale and watching it like a hawk! I have already gotten a glimpse of many items that will be featured on the sale and it’s going to be incredible. There will be several posts featuring the #NSale in the next few days/weeks so make sure that if you’re not subscribed to the blog that you do so by entering your email under ‘subscribe’ in the right column that runs along the side of this page. That way you receive an email notification each time I publish a new post.
See you all right back here soon! Wish me luck as I go back to work {cue my sobs}.
